SIR: I wish to draw your attention and that of our MPs of an injustice being carried out by Government via the Inland Revenue. Are people aware that our senior citizens are still paying income tax on their pensions? The Government give with one hand and take with the other, the state pension is fixed and, if they should be in receipt of a company pension, which they have paid into, this is also taxed further. If they have managed to save a few quid for their retirement, this is also taxed. Is this country so hard up it has to take from these people? And the Inland Revenue haven't finished there because when the good Lord calls, you can bet your bottom dollar there'll be death duties.

We now have a giant-sized poster provided by the Inland Revenue about Self Assessment and Penalties. Personally, I think the people of this country have been penalised enough; we don't need this threat down our throats. There a catch somewhere in this Self Assessment - and you can bet it's not in our favour.
