BURY boss Stan Ternent believes he has a number of potential rising stars under his wing at Gigg Lane.

Ternent was heartened by his side's performance in the midweek Coca-Cola Cup clash with First Division Crystal Palace - despite the 3-1 reverse scoreline.

And he pointed to the high quality of the opposition - the reason behind Dave Bassett's stunning U-turn to reject Manchester City and stay in charge at Selhurst Park this week - in outlining his cause to be excited about the future at Bury.

He said: "It was only that last minute goal which sent everybody home feeling low. Putting it into perspective, you go through the amount of money their team cost to assemble and you see they had more than £5million worth of talent on show on Tuesday night.

"We weren't found wanting all that much and I think that in 18 months to two years time I - or whoever is manager here - will have some good players on their hands."

Ternent's immediate thoughts were today concentrated on the return to league action tomorrow when unpredictable Luton Town visit Gigg Lane.

And he warned not to be lulled into a false sense of security by their opponents' unconvincing start to the season.

"They got a good win recently and sooner or later with the quality of players that they have they will get it right," he added.

"We've got to make sure it isn't tomorrow."

Ternent is expected to field an unchanged side from the midweek defeat with Gordon Armstrong expected to recover from a groin strain.

BURY could find the continuing saga of goalkeeper Dean Kiely's price fixing going all the way to the High Court.

The first transfer tribunal ended in chaos when the York City contingent walked out and the re-scheduled hearing this week was postponed following further complaints from the selling club.

It is understood that the Yorkshire club now intend to take the matter to the High Court.
