A TEENAGER with a wheel talent for roller skating may have to put the brakes on her sporting career due to lack of finances.
Sharon Flitcroft, of Philips Avenue, Farnworth is due to compete in the finals of the British Solo Roller Skating Dance Championship. But the youngster fears that this could be one of her last competitions.
Sharon, 15, who has been a member of the Manchester United and Salford Roller Skating Club for the past two years, has already had to cut down on her practice time due to finances.
Her mother Sandra, explained: "Sharon's dad has been laid off twice.
"Roller skating at competition level is very expensive and until she reaches the British squad there are no funds available."
Although Sharon, who attends St James CE School, has only been skating for the past two years at Ordsall Recreation Centre in Salford she has shown great talent and dedication. Mrs Flitcroft added: "She has worked so hard. It is a shame that Sharon has had to cut down her hours.
"But training is very expensive - coaching is about £20 per hour. It adds up."
If anyone can help with sponsorship they should contact Mrs Flitcroft on Bolton 576390 or 373304.
Sharon will compete in the British Solo Roller Skating Dance Championship in Peterborough on October 20.
