DARCY Lever saved one of the Bolton Association's biggest surprises until last when they toppled champions Golborne to take the Vimto Trophy yesterday.
Golborne, with home advantage, were hot favourites to make it a double celebration following their championship win but they could not match the determination of the Darcy side and the outstanding bowling of Steve Price.
The paceman turned in a superb man of the match performance as he captured six wickets for 13 runs off eight overs.
And that was enough to destroy Golborne's normally strong batting line-up as they crumpled to 25-4 at one stage before being dismissed for 147 and an 18 run defeat.
Batting first, Darcy reached 165-8 with captain John Norris 31 and Gary Hopkins 39 not out making significant contributions.
That hardly looked good enough to test the home batsmen yet Price quickly removed the early order and for a time the champions were in danger of a humiliating defeat.
They managed to rally to 74-5 when Gary Woodward and Paul Robinson came together and threatened to snatch the game away from Darcy.
The pair put on a half-century partnership with Robinson hitting 45 and they looked to have saved the game as Golborne needed only 24 to win off the last six overs with three wickets in hand.
Price, however, put paid to that with another devastating bowling spell, snatching the final wickets to make sure of yet another new name on the trophy.
