RADCLIFFE Boro made it five consecutive wins win a 1-0 victory at Lakeside Club, Netherfield which lifted them to second place in Division One.
Kevin Glendon's side got the vital edge in a first half packed full of good football through a rare strike from David Bean on 38 minutes. The goal was a result of superb unselfish work from Joe Connor and Ian Lunt.
The second half by contrast, was a bad-tempered affair sparked by home defender Gary Findlay's attack on Connor that amazingly only brought him a yellow card. A vicious tackle on Boro's Danny Donachie left the son of former Manchester City star Willie writhing with a dislocated ankle. John Senior, was another bad injury victim for Boro with a twisted knee.
Central defender, Ian Phillips, had gone down with flu on the morning of the game but thankfully replacement Loz Greenhalgh gave a superb showing in his first game of the season. Boro keeper Andy Johnston picked up the man of the match award as a series of outstanding saves extended his run of clean sheets to four.
ATHERTON LR got one over one next weekend's FA Cup second qualifying round opponents Curzon Ashton with a 1-0 win in a never-say-die display.
Rovers had to battle all the way but at the end of the day were well worth their win. Lee Cryer got the vital goal on 20 minutes when the home keeper blocked but couldn't hold Mark Stewart's powerful drive.
It was a bad day all round for Curzon who went into the game second in the table. Amazingly manager, Tommy McLean parted company with the club immediately after the game. ATHERTON COLLS were given an emphatic lesson in finishing by a rampant Burscough side in a 5 - 1 humbling.
Atherton took the lead on eight minutes when Steve Wallace's shot was deflected past his own keeper by a hapless home-defender. Unfortunately, four goals conceded in a ten minute spell at the start of the second half, bringing a hat trick for Andy Howard, spoiled all the earlier good work from Colls.
A phone call on the eve of the Challenge Cup preliminary round home clash with Squires Gate, brought delight to DAISY HILL manager Jimmy Hulton.
All-round sportsman Roy Litherland was ready for soccer action now his involvement playing in the summer rugby league season for Highfield was completed. He was thrown straight into the side and responded with two superb goals.
Daisy's other strikes came from Barry Lowe, Chris Williams and Mike Bennett.
