BRITAIN has asked the Soviet Embassy to arrange for 90 officials allegedley concerned in intelligence activities to leave Britain within two weeks. The Embassy has also been told that 15 other Soviet officials not at present in Britain but holding valid re-entry visas will not be permitted to return.

MORE than one million people in the United Kingdom are already out of work, according to a shock survey by the TUC.

SIR, - For seven years I have travelled daily from Bolton to Manchester, but I have never travelled under conditions as bad as they are today. I always travel on what should be the 7.40am. This train more often than not arrives at Trinity-street about 7.50am, and when it leaves it is more like a cattle train - every compartment is crowded, and the corridors are packed. And though it leaves Bolton like this, it still has to pick up at Moses Gate and Farnworth. All through the war years conditions have not been as bad as they are today. I have not clocked in on time at work in the last three months. Yours etc., Disgusted Traveller.

A COMPLAINT has been made by the Local Government Board of the chaplain at the Bury Workhouse neglecting his duties, and the chaplain in reply admits his neglect, for which he can plead no excuse, and says that if the Guardians conclude that a change should be made, he shall bow to their decision. The Guardians call upon him to give a guarantee that he will perform his duty or resign.

THE latest bulletin from Balmoral states that the Queen is still unable to go out.
