TREVOR Cole, the head porter at Bolton Royal Infirmary, has failed in his battle to keep the job he loves.

As reported in the BEN, the 54-year-old father of four has not had his contract renewed by the Manchester-based cleaning giants Mediclean, following the closure of BRI. He is the only one of the BRI porters who has not had his contract renewed by the private company on the transfer to the new Bolton General development.

He leaves tomorrow.

Mr Cole's plight prompted his colleagues at the Royal Infirmary, where he has worked for the past 13 years, to organise a petition calling for his reinstatement.

In a letter to the BEN, his wife Christine, says: "No-one can take away the hurt that has been caused, the tears we have all cried."

Despite his efforts, Mr Cole has failed to find another job, although Bolton Hospitals Trust has said it will inform him of a vacancy when one arises.

Other workers, now employed by Mediclean, are now working at the Bolton General site.
