By MICHELLE BOWKER A BOLTON Home Watch co-ordinator has been invited to give a keynote speech during the crime fighting scheme's annual conference.

Jan Williamson's speech, "Making a Difference", has provided the theme for the conference on Saturday.

Jan, who co-ordinates the Middle Hulton Home Watch Association, will highlight how the Home Watch scheme has helped make neighbourhoods safer and more secure.

This has been achieved through initiatives that have cut crime and fear of crime, improved the quality of life for residents or resolved problems with youths causing annoyance.

Jan wrote the piece just for members of her association but it so impressed local Watch Scheme administrator Chris Waters that he passed it onto Greater Manchester Chief Constable David Wilmot.

And, as a mark of gratitude for her hard work and dedication, Jan has been judged divisional winner in the force's Home Watch Awards.

Jan, who formed the association in 1985, and the 10 other divisional winners will hear who the overall winner is at the conference, which is being held at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

All the divisional winners will receive £70 worth of vouchers for themselves and their scheme. Each will also be presented with a Certificate of Achievement by the Chief Constable.

The overall winner will receive additional gift vouchers and an engraved plaque.
