LEEK TOWN 1 - CHORLEY 0

A SPIRITED performance at Harrison Park still was not enough for Chorley to return with anything tangible for their efforts.

A goal 18 minutes from time enabled Leek to maintain their unbeaten start to the season and retain top spot.

The Magpies welcomed back Mark Wright from injury and certainly the defence looked a good deal stronger for his presence. Territorially, Chorley dominated for most of the match but could not quite find the required finish, though it was significant that keeper Bullock was Leek's best player. In contrast Marsh had little to worry him.

Overall it was a fairly scrappy affair with few clean-cut chances. Trundle almost grabbed an early lead for his side with a screaming drive that grazed an early lead for his side with a couple of half chances that got away. Just after half-time, Mayers failed to get any power in his shot after being cleverly put clear by Trundle.

Marginson mis-hit a volley wide, Bullock saved a stinging drive from Zolden, and Marginson's delightful cross invited a far post header into the net only for Mayers and Ross to get in each other's way.

The corner count was heavily in the Magpies' favour and from one Marginson flag, Rick Ross's header was brilliantly tipped over by Bullock. With just under 20 minutes, to go Leek grabbed an undeserved lead when Batho broke clear to shoot between Marsh and his post for a goal that won't have pleased the Magpies' keeper.

ZChorley will play Accrington Stanley away on Wednesday October 2, kick-off 7.30pm and on October 5 they will meet Blyth Spartans away, kick-off 3pm..M-
