AN MP has called for extra police officers in Greater Manchester. Liz Lynne said that more bobbies were needed to stem a rising tide of violent crime in the area.
The Rochdale Liberal Democrat said the recent crime statistics showed that offences - especially violent ones - were rising faster in Greater Manchester than the national trend.
Disturbing
Mrs Lynne said: "In Greater Manchester there has been a significant increase in violent crime and an eight per cent rise in offences of criminal damage.
"The increase in violent crime is incredibly disturbing.
"Last year there was a 25 per cent increase in total violent crime throughout Greater Manchester.
"Greater Manchester Police deserve much credit for all the work they are doing in tackling crime but with crime rising at such a fast rate it is clear that more police officers are needed."
