EVERY parent can feel for Bolton mother Irene Hulse, who seems to have been left alone to pursue the killers of her son.

Michael Hulse, from Darcy Lever, died after being severely beaten up in Tenerife and two men from Bolton were arrested on suspicion of being involved. After being detained and having their passports confiscated, the suspects now appear to have slipped out of the holiday island.

Neither the Spanish nor British police should be content to leave the pursuit of vicious killers to a victim's mother or a coroner, who, in recording a verdict that Michael was 'unlawfully killed' at an inquest this week, sent a letter to Greater Manchester Police outlining his findings.

British police are now working with the Spanish authorities on the case but Mrs Hulse, following Foreign Office advice, is considering taking out a costly private prosecution against the men she believes were responsible for the killing.

In wishing her success, we are appalled by the apparent indifference of the Tenerife police and authorities to this dreadful, violent crime that took place on their soil.

If the Spanish won't act, the full weight of the Greater Manchester Police and the British legal system should be thrown behind bringing the culprits to court.
