By Neil Bonnar STAN Ternent today demanded an improvement from his struggling Bury players.

The Shakers have failed to win in five games and Ternent has warned he will not accept a repeat of the attitude their showed in Tuesday night's 4-0 humbling at Crystal Palace.

Their usual fighting spirit was replaced by a feeble approach at Selhurst Park and Ternent admitted they cannot afford the same again when they look reverse their recent trend of results at Walsall tomorrow.

After their brilliant start to the season, Bury's have seen their bubble burst by an aggregate 7-1 Coca-Cola Cup second round defeat by Palace and two draws and a defeat in their last three league games.

But it was the way they lost in midweek which has given Ternent most cause for concern.

"It's not always the fact you lose which is important, but how you lose," he explained.

"I was disappointed with the level of commitment we showed at Palace and there will be a big improvement in that department - there will have to be."

The spotlight will be on Bury's goalscoring ability tomorrow after they have managed to hit just two goals in the last five outings - and those from defenders.

Bury are awaiting fitness reports on striker Ronnie Jepson while the most intriguing situation concerns the left back position where it seems the fittest of Nick Reid (hamstring), Gordon Armstrong (thigh) and David Pugh, who is now virtually fully recovered from his broken elbow, will play.
