COLIN Todd wants his table-toppers to put their promotion credentials on the line in tomorrow's all-ticket Burnden showdown with Stoke.

The free-scoring Wanderers aim to dominate one of their traditional rivals and confirm their position as hot favourites to regain their Premiership status at the first time of asking.

They will hope to regain the attacking fluency that was missing in the midweek Coca-Cola Cup clash with Bristol City when it took extra-time before they finally overwhelmed inferior opposition.

Boss Todd immediately expressed his disappointment with that performance and promised a big improvement. Today he spelled out what he expects of his players as they bid to maintain their 100 per cent home record.

"Everyone knows the importance of the game," he acknowledged. "We are playing against opponents who have had some good results; a team that is right up there in the table.

"Being the home side, we need to set the pattern with a disciplined, controlled performance combining the steel, determination and movement of the ball that has produced a successful end product in all the recent games."

Todd is expected to give Scott Sellars his third start of the season on the left of midfield and switch Michael Johansen from left to right at the expense of David Lee.

Stoke, currently fourth in the table, currently boast the Division's top scorer in former Manchester City and Norwich striker Mike Sheron. He already has 10 goals to his name, despite losing his favoured partner Simon Sturridge, whose place has gone to the powerful John Gayle.

John McGinlay, back in scoring action himself in the midweek cup tie, made no bones about the threat from the former England U-21 man when he said: "He's scoring in every game. We're going to have to keep a close eye on him.

"But we're creating a lot of chances ourselves and we can create even more."
