SIR: It is bizarre to keep hearing that Tony Blair has taken up the Conservative policies after years of opposing them. John Major must feel very pleased that he has convinced the leader of the Opposition to his way of thinking.
It was very noticeable though at the recent Trades Union Congress that the members were not of the same opinion as Mr Blair.
Mrs Thatcher was discredited when she removed some of the powers from the Union Barons, but Mr Blair goes even further. He is going to cut the ties with the Unions completely, but we all know that the true socialists are not going to be silenced for ever. MPs like John Prescott, Tony Benn and Denis Skinner are a shining example of this.
As a working class Conservative I find it difficult to grasp how Labour MPs, councillors and trade unionists, as well as Labour voters throughout the country, can keep silent about their campaign tactics just to gain power. I for one am glad to see them squirm under their own hypocritical regime.
