COUNCIL chiefs are set to end the last free on-street parking near Bolton town centre.
They want to bring in waiting restrictions in the Breightmet Street, Shifnall Street, Salop Street and River Street areas.
It has been the only place close to many town centre offices where workers could park free of charge.
Councillors were told at a highways sub committee meeting that the River Street car park would be made available for contract parking for town centre staff.
The council was asked to bring in the restrictions to help businesses in the industrial area.
The restrictions include no waiting at any time on some stretches, two-hour restrictions and pay and display machines.
The proposals will now be advertised and will be brought in if there are no objections.
