LAZY motorists will be banned from parking near a Bolton primary school. Waiting restrictions are to be brought in along the Orchard Gardens cul-de-sac near Harwood Meadows County Primary School.

Last week, a school secretary had to ask drivers to move so that an ambulance could get through to treat a sick nine-year-old boy.

Headmaster Mr David Webb said: "We are absolutely delighted. This is something we have wanted for a long time.

"It has simply been an accident waiting to happen. People have even been parking on the pavements.

"It is obviously chaos at home time and this problem makes it even worse.

"We have sent newsletters home with children asking motorists not to park there"

Council officers had recommended the restrictions.

But highways sub committee councillors visited the area before they agreed.

Cllr Peter Finch, chairman, said: "We spoke to the headmaster and we realised the problems it was causing."
