AT the Licensing Meeting today, Mr Pennington applied, on behalf of Mr John Hampson, of Bank-street, for the removal of the licence of the Bank Inn to the Bird-i'th-Hand, on the opposite side of the street. It appeared that the house had passed, by purchase, into the possession of the trustees of Bank-street Unitarian Chapel, who required the premises for the extension of school accommodation. The application was opposed by Mr Hall, on behalf of the chapel trustees, and the advocate contended that there was not the slightest necessity for the transfer as far as public accommodation was concerned, and that the Bird-i'th-Hand, when it had a licence, was alike to the chapel, the school, and the congregation, a sickening nuisance which he asked the magistrates not to perpetuate. The application for transfer was refused.
