A SWINTON police officer has been praised for "putting his life on the line" by jumping into a canal to save a drowning woman.
Pc Bob Collier, 30, dived into the water at Salford Quays yesterday afternoon, to rescue the woman.
A firemen also provided assistance and three were taken to Salford's Hope Hospital as a precaution.
This morning, Chief Supt John Potts, at Salford, said: "Bob Collier put his life on the line yesterday when he saved a lady from drowning.
"Many members of the public could see the lady in the water in great danger and Bob without hesitation entered the water and carried out a rescue that took enormous courage.
"I have never ceased to be amazed by the bravery displayed by police officers with no concern for their own safety."
