A NEW business with a famous Bolton name was launched by soccer star John McGinlay.
The popular Bolton Wanderers striker was on hand to open the new Boydell's Baby Superstore in Bentinck Street, Farnworth.
It is the latest venture by Supercover (Bolton) Ltd - a growing business started by Managing Director Andrew Kluge in 1981.
He started operations above a small pram shop on Derby Street producing good quality pushchair raincovers.
The company is now Europe's largest specialist manufacturer of nursery accessories, employing more than 190 people in Farnworth and Darwen.
Earlier this year Supercover bought the Boydell's name, goodwill and stock after the Oxford Street business went into voluntary liquidation.
After operating the new business in Oxford Street for several months it has now been transferred to Supercover in Bentinck Street.
Mr Kluge says about £50,000 has been spent on refurbishing a section of the premises for the seven-days-a-week operation which has a cafe and play area.
It sells a wide range of nursery products, including those made by Supercover.
Seven former Boydell's employees work in the store and two others have been found jobs in Supercover.
Mr Kluge said today: "Something good has come out of a bad situation.
"We have saved nine jobs and kept a well-known name afloat. That is something to celebrate."
