SIR: The Red Moss Action Committee (RMAC), which has been campaigning for 18 months against the proposed Supertip for Red Moss at Horwich is a non-political organisation whose main concerns are the future of this wildlife habitat, and education regarding waste-management and recycling.

Following the recent planning officers' report on the waste disposal application by UK Waste Ltd., and intimations from council officials that the scheme could be finally rejected at a planning meeting scheduled for August 22, the late submission of a further document by UK Waste on the morning of the meeting has stifled the anticipated celebrations, and given cause for serious concern regarding the future development of the Bolton Wanderers combined Stadium/Business/Leisure facility, that is currently under construction at Red Moss, on a site adjacent to the existing tip.

The Emerson Group, who are the site developers and joint partners with Bolton MBC and Bolton Wanderers in this ambitious venture, must surely be aware of the consequences of locating a tip - of the proportions envisaged - in such close proximity to their prestigious development.

It would appear though that they, and the companies/organisations already committed to the development, are either unaware of the health hazards involved, or are unconvinced as to the detrimental hazards that local residents and businesses have had to endure over the past 20 years, when the existing tip was operational.

The RMAC are currently approaching the interested parties, in an effort to ascertain their views on the health aspect of the development, and to urge them - if they are not already aware - to approach Bolton MBC regarding this issue, and press them to reject the waste disposal scheme, before committing themselves further.
