CARTERS Arms took a two-point lead at the top of the Horwich Sunday League Premier Division with a 5-3 away win against lowly Travels.
Arkwrights picked up two points with a 2-0 home win over White Horse Rangers to lift them into a mid-table position.
Last season's runners-up Jolly Miller picked up two points when they won 2-0 at home to Victory with a goal each from Andy Taylor and R Irwin.
In the First Division New Lane remain out on top after an 8-1 demolition job against Postal with Phil Hutchinson scoring four of his side's goals, Barry Derbyshire (2) plus goals from O'Neil and Jones. This now makes it six wins from six outings for the New Lane men.
Close behind in second spot are Oxford Grove who were very lucky indeed to win 2-0 away at Red Lion with both goals coming against the run of play.
Dave Wheatley put Kings ahead after 32 mins and as Lion pressed for the equaliser Kings' centre forward broke clear and Alan Olmond, spotting the Lion goalkeeper off his line, lobbed the ball over his head into an empty goal to make the points safe and leave them level at the top of the table. Barnstormers moved into third spot in the table after a 4-1 home win against Arkwrights Academicals. Also in joint third spot are Victoria Inn who won a high scoring game 5-4 at home to Horwich Vic.
