WHEN Macdonald Hotels decided to re-name Bolton's Pack Horse Hotel, the BEN objected immediately.
We pointed out that for 90 years the Pack Horse Hotel has been a well known local landmark and its name should not be changed. Many people agreed with us.
Now MacDonalds have deferred to local opinion and the hotel will become the New Pack Horse Hotel. Gerry Smith, chief operating officer for Macdonald Hotels, said they had underestimated the affection the local community has for the Pack Horse.
We congratulate MacDonalds on their commonsense and wish them well in their Bolton enterprise.
