MR BIRCH, the sculptor entrusted with the intended statue to Dr Chadwick, has intimated to R.G. Hinnell, Esq., town clerk, and secretary to the Memorial Committee, that he had proceeded with the statue as far as he can without further instructions. The statue has been finished in bronze some months, and is now only awaiting the inscription for the pedestal, and also the design of the Orphanage to be placed in relief at the base of the statue. It is intended that as soon as Mr Alderman Barlow, who was President of the Committee at the time it was formed, and has always taken considerable interest in the movement, returns from his tour of the continent, to convene a meeting of the Memorial Committee for the purpose of giving the sculptor the requisite instructions.
