THIS year's annual open day for schools organised by Horwich training group BTG is on Wednesday, October 9.
It forms part of the activities to celebrate the former Bolton Training Group's 30th year in business.
Bolton-based paper machine manufacturers Beloit Walmsley - one of 400 associate companies supporting BTG - will provide exhibition material throughout the day at the BTG training facility on Chorley New Road.
The aim is to show school-leavers the career opportunities available at BTG via Modern Apprenticeships and Quest Careerships.
Beloits Training Manager Brian Osbiston cited the cases of three BTG trainees who are moving up the career ladder with the company:
ANDREW KAYLYNDSEY CALOE, aged 21, a former pupil at Harper Green School, Farnworth, joined the firm in August, 1984 as an apprentice draftsperson working on computerised information and control systems after training at BTG as a technician.
She is now a member of the technical design team. NASHRIN PATEL, a former Hayward School pupil, went on to a training course at BTG before beginning her apprenticeship at Beloits in January as an engineering technician trainee. Other prominent local employers will be on hand to offer advice at the open day.
Julie Connolly, BTG's Sales and Marketing Manager, said: "We are delighted with the positive support we are receiving. "Especially now in our 30th year when we are constantly up-dating our training programmes to meet the changing needs of local industry."
