A BOLTON bus driver has been crowned the best in the country. David Balfe, from Astley Bridge, was named National Bus Driver of the Year ahead of 60 other competitors from various bus companies in the finals at Blackpool.
David, who drives for Stagecoach Ribble, was judged to have the best skills on a driving test and also proved to have the best knowledge of the Highway Code.
Bolton operations manager for Stagecoach Ribble Maq Alibhai said: "These competitions are organised to promote a feeling of pride and a high degree of driving skill among the drivers.
"David has been representing the company in the competition for several years now and after a number of top three placings he has finally achieved first place."
Mr Alibhai added: "We are delighted that a representative of our company has won such a prestigious award and we feel it reflects on the quality of training we provide."
