CORONATION Street's Roy Barraclough found himself barking up the wrong tree when he visited Bolton to support a Fire Safety Week event.
For Roy, who plays showbiz entrepreneur Alec Gilroy in the top soap, inadvertently went through a wrong door and found himself at a seminar...on dog fouling!
Apparently Roy, who has played Bolton's Octagon theatre several times, arrived in town early before the fire brigade's representatives.
The actor went into the town hall and wandered into the seminar.
He was even handed a fact pack on dog fouling before he realised the mix-up - and left with his tail between his legs.
Cllr Peter Finch who was also due to attend the launch discovered what had happened and rescued Roy.
Fortunately Roy, who was not in the dog house for long, was still on time to officially launch a host of events highlighting Fire Safety Week.
Cllr Finch explained: "Roy said that when he was in the town hall he saw all these people heading for this room.
"He thought it must have been the function he was going to and joined in. It was only when the seminar started that he realised it was about dog fouling!
"Fortunately he saw the funny side. In fact he said it might even end up in a comedy script!"
Among the attractions organised by Greater Manchester Fire Service in Victoria Square yesterday was an exhibition of vintage and modern fire engines, a bouncy castle and puppet shows.
