SIR: Hurray for Mr Sackville, having the courage of his convictions regarding Hell Estate (BEN, September 20).
It's high time that somebody took this council department to task over its short-comings.
Cllr Spencer said: "But Kendrew Road is no worse than any other."
No it's just as bad, due to non-vetting of new tenants and failing to instigate eviction procedures for those they already know about with drugs or theft convictions.
Far from Mr Sackville's comments being a damned cheek, the problem was he hit the nail all too squarely on the head, and right where it hurt.
By the way it is not the council department's, policy to repossess properties belonging to drug dealers, as that is one particular area where subordinates are quite happy to ignore, and treat as petty minded, tenants who do have the courage to complain about these problems.
As for his department creating and carrying out external refurbishments this is only an outside show. What about the inside, or doesn't it matter? Keep up the good work Mr Sackville.
