THE final chapter in the history of Bolton's Royal Infirmary will be closed tomorrow in a symbolic ceremony.
The former Bolton infirmary will finally end its 100 year service to the town in what is expected to be an emotional ceremony by Bolton Hospitals NHS Trust chairman, Mrs Barbara Peacock.
An antique key, originally presented in 1883 to Alderman Joseph Musgrave - chairman of the infirmary - will be used to finally lock the doors to the building in the ceremony at 2.15pm.
The Royal Infirmary was closed to patients last month after all its wards and departments were transferred to the new £45 million Bolton General Hospital.
The building has since been stripped and will now be put up for sale by the NHS Executive North west.
