SIR: Councillor R Evans in his letter to Viewpoint (September 25) looks forward to a Labour government "so we can look forward to local education authorities having the means to ensure that all our schools are equally resourced". This is all very well but Councillor Evans does not explain where the money is coming from and Tony Blair seems to be nearer to the Tories on taxation.
Only the Liberal Democrats are committed to improving nursery provision and education generally by putting a penny on income tax specifically for education if it is absolutely necessary.
The Liberal Party Conference decided to "tell it like it is" that better Education and Health etc. has a price tag and you can't cut taxes and have better services. John Prescott recently said Labour wanted to be fair to rich and poor - but all parties would say that.
The Lib-Dems are the only party to he honest about what they would do about tax and neither Labour nor Conservatives will explain how they can cut taxes and provide the services we need. John Major promised to cut taxes at the last election and we all know about over 20 increases in taxation once he was elected.
