BOLTON is at the forefront of moves to cut accidents outside schools. This month this will be one of the first authorities in the country to bring in a legally enforceable parking ban by putting up signs outside school.
The council has also welcomed a Labour Party pledge to bring in 20mph speed limits outside school gates.
There should be slow speed limits outside schools and any legislation which increases safety is welcome. Sadly for every careful driver who slows down and refuses to park outside schools, there is a selfish one who puts speed before safety and will risk a child's life rather than walk a few years.
