RESIDENTS in Westhoughton are taking a walk down memory lane with their "new-look" street modelled on Victorian times.
Bolton planners have spruced up Wilbraham Street using century-old setts and Yorkshire flags.
The Dickensian-style look is intended to complement nearby Ditchfield Gardens, which have been re-planted and redesigned.
Traditional paving techniques were put into practice in the street and the original cobbles were unearthed from beneath the tarmac and dusted down.
Far-sighted planners also decided to pull down the bland lamp posts and replace them with Victorian replicas.
Cllr Peter Finch, planning and environment services committee vice-chairman, said: "We wanted the area to look special and the Victorian feel for the area has been re-created with the setts, the lamps and the paving flags.
"The whole project complements the nearby gardens and gives everyone an attractive aspect.
"The residents are delighted with the 'new-old' look to their road and we are now looking at other areas where similar schemes would add to the attractiveness of the town."
