ANGRY Lynn Poole is fed-up with being left in the dark - and has stepped down from her local action committee in protest. The mother-of-two resigned as treasurer of the Blenheim Area Residents' Association because a missing lamp post has not been replaced. Miss Poole is "frustrated" at the association's failure to bring change to the Breightmet community.

She said: "Every time we ask the council for improvements, we get told that they have no money.

There have been too may arguments and the street light is the last straw."

She claims a large area near her Stanworth Avenue home has been left unlit by Bolton Council for nearly 12 months. And numerous pleas to have the light replaced have "fallen on deaf ears".

Miss Poole said: "The council took away the lamp post from outside my house last November. It has never been put back.

"My house has nearly been broken into three times and my next door neighbour fell and split her head because it is so dark.

"There are a lot of elderly people around here. They could easily fall.

"The lighting engineers keep assuring us that the light will be replaced but so far nothing has happened."

A spokesman for Bolton Council said the lamp would be replaced within the next four weeks but said tests in the area had proved that the street was light enough.

The spokesman said: "I must stress that street lights are not there for the residents' convenience but to light the footpaths and carriageway. The lights are not there to protect people's houses.

"We are aware of the complaint and we will be replacing the light."
