BOLTON'S major redevelopment schemes, including the transformation of the Tonge Valley, have been praised by the nation's top planner.
The President of the Royal Town Planning Institute, Professor Cliff Hague, visited the town to cast an expert eye over schemes such as the industry scarred Tonge Valley and the award-winning Market Place.
Professor Hague applauded "the high standards set by the Bolton Council" to revitalise the town centre and regenerate some of the derelict areas.
He said: "This is an excellent example of positive planning and shows how the profession can transform not only run-down areas, but also peoples' lives."
