Table Tennis by ALAN CALVERT RAMSBOTTOM A turned in a good all-round performance to beat Meadow Hill A in the Premier Division this week.
Graham Hoy, Nigel Hallows and Steve McNicholas won two each - all falling to Jim Chadwick - in a 6-3 victory away from home.
Heaton B suffered a mauling when they met Doe Hey A in Division One.
Trebles for John Howarth and Chris Byrne plus two from Paul Madden were countered by one from Mel Brooks in an 8-1 win.
The contest was closer in another Division One encounter when Nomads edged it 5-4 over Jubilee A.
A Derek Horsfield treble and two from Richard Armstrong was answered by two from Vinny Croft and one each from Dave Smith and Brian Gooddy, the league's Match Secretary.
Division two saw BEN A make a successful trip to Little Lever C and go home with a 6-3 result thanks to trebles from Mike Heaton and Nil Ghosh.
Alf Gradwell - making his debut for the BEN - was beaten by Alan Price, Jack Seddon and Mark Price.
There was better news for Little Lever's B team when they beat Doe Hey B 6-3 thanks to a treble from Roy Costello, two from Paul Tatlock and one from Richard Simmons.
The ubiquitious John Howarth had two and Mick Kitchen one in the Doe Hey reply.
In Division three the talking point was the 6-3 victory of the all-female Hilton C team against the lads from Hilton B.
Julie Owen, who is an Isle of Man champion studying locally, had a treble supported by two from last year's top Division four player Julie Ardeshana and one from Dorothy Webb (the former Miss Scowcroft).
Brian Lomax (two) and Barry Jones (one) made the B team's contribution.
Hilton A, the Horwich centre's third team in this division, went down to Breightmet Electrics 6-3.
Dennis Lomax (3), George Hindley (2) and Stuart Canfield (1) had resistance from Martin Finch (2) and Alan Entwistle (1).
The local derby in division four resulted in a 6-3 victory by Memorial Road A over Beesley Green.
Richard Hannant (3), A. M. Unsworth (2) and Peter Ellis (1) scored for the winners and Alan Platt (2) and Jonathan Klippon (1) replied for the visitors.
Wingates B defeated Hilton D in this division thanks to trebles from John Gratton and Malcolm Jackson.
There was one victory each for Hilton's Alan Revell, Steve Ros and Barry Walsh.
Salford Police B had their progress arrested somewhat when they entertained Heaton E in Division five.
Two each from Steve Woods and Dave Mort plus the clincher from Geoff Mort saw Heaton home 5-4 against a treble from Dave Stevens and one from Barrie Horridge.
It was a good night for Jubilee E in this division when Roger Bolton, Ron Ainsworth and David Miller inflicted a 9-0 defeat on Ladybridge E.
