MANAGERS recruiting 240 people for a new B&Q warehouse in Bury are looking for "positive attitudes."
The warehouse, which is due to open in February, 1997, will cover 135,000 square feet at the Bridgehall Industrial Park.
It will sell 40,000 products to tradesmen, organisations buying in bulk for commercial purposes, serious home improvers and everyday DIY enthusiasts.
The company says it will be the largest home improvement store in the Manchester area. Mr Gordon Portman, who has just been appointed General Manager, is co-ordinating the recruitment drive with an emphasis on customer service.
He said: "You can teach skills, but you cannot teach attitude.
"We need staff with positive attitudes who can provide an expert, friendly, efficient and welcoming service to every customer."
Posts include general customer advisers, trade experts, kitchen consultants and gardening and interior design advisers. Barnsley-born Mr Portman, aged 33, who has been with B&Q for 14 years, has worked in 11 of the company's stores as manager and in depots in Doncaster and Leeds.
Dot Shepherd, the Timber & Hardware Store Manager, was once the landlady of the Eagle & Child pub in Bury.
She joined B&Q at Bury in 1987 and has since worked in stores in Bolton, Nelson and Altrincham.
Gardening Store Manager John Eason, who joined the staff at the Swinton store in 1986, has spent five years working at the supercentre in Bolton.
