IN the LANCS AMATEUR LEAGUE Division Two went under the spotlight with the majority of Premier and First Division teams taking part in the second round of the Whitbread Cup.
After their goalless draw against Old Mancunians, Little Lever SC resumed their winning ways and retain top place with a 3-2 win over North Manchester.
Lee Dewhurst opened the scoring for the Mytham Road men only for North to equalise. Phil Hill restored the visitors advantage before half-time and after the break Lever seemed to make the game safe through Darryl Green but the home side put up a spirited fight and scored again to leave the table-toppers relieved to hear the final whistle.
Hayward lost their first three games but after a win in the cup the previous week they were in the mood to take on an Old Mancunians side which had triumphed over Premier Division opposition in the cup the previous week.
Hayward brought their opponents down to earth with three well taken Hayward goals. Chris Fairclough powered in a long range free kick, Gareth Owen ran half the length of the pitch for a fine solo effort and Wayne Davies made it a trio of fine strikes with an unstoppable shot from just inside the area before Mancunians scored with a late penalty. IN the PIONEER LEAGUE Cross Guns staged a great fightback to clinch an eleven-goal thriller with Lodge Bank.
Guns trailed 4-0 at one stage but a second half hat-trick from Haslam helped to nick the points with a 6-5 victory.
King William stay on top of Division One after narrowly beating much improving Unity Brook 7-5.
Masons returned to winning ways with a 3-2 victory over Farmers Arms while Shamrock continued their high-scoring ways with a 9-0 victory over Astley Bridge, Stephenson and Burke both scoring hat-tricks.
