A KNIFEMAN who attempted to rob a food store manageress in a Walkden shopping precinct has been "captured" on video. Detectives are sifting through video footage - from a security camera - of the knifeman as he confronted the 48-year-old woman in the Ellesmere Shopping Precinct on Monday afternoon.
Police say the thug had been waiting for the woman to arrive with her day's takings. He produced a knife and threatened the shocked store boss but fled when she screamed.
The attempted robbery prompted Det Chief Insp Kenny Caldwell, of Swinton Police, to issue a warning to store owners, urging them to vary their routes when taking cash to local banks.
He said: "The lady on this occasion has been fortunate. If local business people must go the banks each day my advice to them would be to go accompanied and avoid using the same routes and times when they go."
