A CAMPAIGNING councillor is stamping his feet because residents of Chorley's largest villages are missing out on a late postal collection.

Coun Simon Jones thought he had won an improved service when the Royal Mail told him that the last collection at Clayton Brook Post Office would be at 6.15pm instead of 4pm.

He said: "It now seems that the last collection is at Clayton GREEN Post Office, not Clayton Brook, and the 5,000 residents of Clayton Brook are still left without a late collection."

The Royal Mail wrote to Coun Jones apologising and saying they had lost an original letter they sent him, which stated that the last post would go from Clayton Brook Post Office, on Great Greens Lane, as well as extra collections from the post box next to Carrfield.

A second letter was sent to Mr Jones, after he complained that nothing had happened, saying that their only intention was to implement the service in Clayton Green, and not in Clayton Brook.

Mr Jones fumed: "Having made the error, they should honour what they originally said and set Clayton Brook's collection time for 18:15.

"The authorities do not seem to appreciate how large the population is - with businesses and schools as well as residents - and we feel our postal service is lacking behind others."

Tony Rigby from the Royal Mail said: "We are currently revising collection times in all areas.

"Clayton Brook and Clayton Green fall under different areas. The area which covers Clayton Brook is currently under revision and plans are in place to implement later collections right across the area."
