BOLTON parents were today warned that voting Labour could cost their children an education at the town's top school. Tory candidate Robert Wilson backed today's Bournemouth launch of a campaign by the Friends of Independent Schools to defend the assisted places scheme from Labour. They are to hold a series of meetings and advertise in national and local papers, claimimg that a Labour vote could end the scheme and deprive thousands of bright young people from less well off backgrounds the benefits of an independent education .

Mr Wilson, who will contest Bolton North-east at the next election, said: "This is a very important issue and very important in Bolton.

"Many children from less well off backgrounds take advantage of the scheme to go to Bolton School.

"A Labour government would mean that hundreds of parents in Bolton would have to send their children to the school the local education authority decided. Parents should be aware of this when they vote."
