THE 10-strong cast of "Oh Calcutta" were arrested by the vice squad in Sydney after staging the Australian premiere of the sex review. The show had been put on before an audience of 60 at a converted cinema in defiance of a State government ban. Police said the cast had been charged with indecent exposure and offensive behaviour. 50 YEARS AGO

BRITISH intelligence officers in Jerusalem were reported by reliable private sources today to believe that internecine warfare between Jewish underground gangsters was 'almost imminent'. The fear of gang warfare is so deeply felt that British military authorities may keep troops in barracks except when actually on duty.

MR Weston richly deserves the thanks of the Bolton public for the introduction to the boards of the Theatre Royal of so splendid a company as the German Opera and Operetta Company. Although the audience last night was not as large as we would gladly have seen, the applause was sufficiently enthusiastic and continuous to assure the company of the extreme gratification afforded by their efforts.
Three pieces were presented, and all were in German; somewhat of a drawback, it must be admitted to a Bolton audience; but the music was so thoroughly excellent that ignorance of the plot was lost in admiration of the harmony.
