WHO said romance is dead? Today, Horwich couple Brenda Hardy and Tony Hesketh marry at the top of Winter Hill - on the spot where Tony proposed three years ago.

The two Horwich Harriers will join friends from the club and fellow runners from Chorley and Wigan and Bolton Unitarian minister the Rev Tony McNeile will perform the ceremony.

While we wish them well and hope that the weather is kinder now than when Tony popped the question - it was snowing - the event does highlight the varied places that people can now get married.

And, if more couples start tying the knot at the place where the proposal took place, can we expect to see a rash of people marrying by candlelight in their favourite restaurant or in the middle of romantic walks at Rivington. Or even at a private screening of When Harry Met Sally?
