THE future is panning out just fine for a small Bolton business which fought its way through the recession.
David Bell, who lives in Smithills, started Burnertech six years ago in the garage at his former home in Little Lever.
After a month he was joined by partner Eddie Wilkinson and a year later the business transferred to Moses Gate and operated there for 2 years.
It moved to its present home in Chulsey Street, Daubhill, a couple of years ago and now it boasts a healthy orderbook.
Mr Bell, aged 40, says: "Things are really busy at present."
Burnertech manufactures and maintains burners used in industrial processes.
The first year turnover of £40,000 has increased to £350,000 this year and there are now five engineers, with another due to be hired next month if somebody with the right specialist skills can be found.
They are building-up a national reputation and are also seeking to develop export markets.
Meanwhile, a nice sideline is developing in the production of massive cast iron pans with wooden handles.
Mr Bell said they were contacted 12 months ago by a Southern businessman who needed burners for the 33in diameter pans which he supplies to caterers providing stir-fries and big breakfasts at large outside events such as shows and exhibitions.
After providing the burners they found themselves making the pans as well.
"We did 40 last year and it will be between 50 and 60 this year," Mr Bell said.
The pans, which weigh 55 kilos each, are a talking point wherever they go.
Last year Mr Bell hired out one of the pans and burners to Bolton area pubs and other organisations.
"They are a show-stopper," he said.
"Our customer now wants us to make a 12 ft diameter pan for him to use at an exhibition," Mr Bell added.
