Atherton LR 1, Bamber Bridge 1 THE name of Atherton LR will be in the draw for the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup but Dave Morris's lads must make sure of a place by doing it all again tomorrow night against old rivals Bamber Bridge after Saturday's home draw.
Despite being reduced to 10 men after only half an hour, Rovers still looked by far the better side throughout against the current UniBond Premier Division champions.
The visitors' Stuart Todhunter had clearly taken a liking to the shirt of LR's Mattie brooks and was trying to rip it off his back as both challenged for the ball.
Foolishly, but not really dangerously, the highly-rated Atherton youngster lashed out to get him off. Almost as soon as the Bamber player began his theatrical fall to the ground, the red card was out and Brooks was on his way.
The numerical disadvantage hardly seemed to worry Rovers and they took the lead on 50 minutes when superb work from Paul Borrows and Mark Stewart gained due reward as Steve Gavin's studs deflected Lee Cryer's wayward shot into the bottom corner.
Bamber equalised on 62 minutes when Mark Edwards showed all the instincts that have kept him at the top of local goalscoring charts for several seasons with a superb turn and shot past Hills.
Radcliffe Boro 1, Netherfield 1 "WE seem to have lost our way just a little bit," says Radcliffe Boro Press Officer, David Johnston.
"There just seems to be something lost in our rhythm somehow and we are over-elaborating."
The home draw with Netherfield was, however, not quite as bad as it could have been for second-placed Boro as leaders Lincoln United were held 2-2 at home by bottom club Warrington Town.
Netherfield threatened in the first half but had to wait until the 56th minute when Darren Emmett produced a magical turn and finish to open the scoring. An immediate triple substitution from disgruntled Boro manager Kevin Glendon introducing Peter McRae, Graham Haddon and Loz Greenhalgh for David Bean, Simon Whittle and Mike Farrelly did the trick.
Things improved with Boro looking far more potent and it was no surprise on 77 minutes when Levi Edwards got a superb equaliser following great work from Ian Lunt.
Atherton Colls 1, Penrith 1
ANOTHER defensive lapse cost Atherton Colls dear in the home NWCL Division One game with Penrith.
Leading 1-0 from a superb seventh minute volley from the outstanding Graham Dodd, sweeper Mick Bennett was caught five minutes before half time in trying to play the ball out rather than clearing his lines.
His pass was intercepted and Marcus Thompson levelled the scores.
Colls had by far the better of open play and were only denied by the woodwork when Phil Porter went through to beat the keeper but not the upright. Former LR defender Duncan Edwards made a good league debut and Paul Rigby in midfield was another to catch the eye for Atherton.
Garswood United 4, Daisy Hill 0
JIMMY Hulton's Daisy Hill crashed out of the NWCL Division Two Cup at the first hurdle.
"We were lucky to get nil," complained Hulton. "Only Eric Rostron could hold his head up after a game like that." Poor Manny Beattie found out that he was the first ever winner of the Bolton Wanderers Goldline Player of the Month and then goes and scores on own goal.
