ALL six local SGL Seat Cars West Lancs and Manchester League sides survived their first round matches in the Lancashire Adidas Amateur Shield on Saturday.

Little Hulton United had goals from Mattie Swales, Dave Lees, Rob Graham and Alun Davies to thank for a 4-2 win over Oakland but the big news for the club came yesterday morning with the announcement that the differences between first team boss Steve Vychinski and the club committee have been resolved and he is to resume control from next weekend.

He resigned last week over a row about funds for players' training and treatment, explaining: "The chairman and I have had a chat and the original agreement for money to be made available has been re-instated. The trouble was caused by the club's ground rental being increased astronomically and this has now been partially resolved with a payment scheme. I can't describe how chuffed I am to be back.

Last Saturday was the worst I have even known. I just sat there looking at my watch all afternoon!"

With everything in the United camp happy again, they remain a strong bet to go a long way in this competition. Unfortunately striker Mattie Swales was rushed to hospital to have stitches inserted in an eye wound just after scoring the opening goal. He will be doubtful for this weekend's trip to Stockport Georgians.

Peter Cooper's Turton travelled to Wigan League side Shevington and earned a fine 2-1 victory.

The home side started well on a difficult playing surface and promptly took a 1-0 lead from the penalty spot.

Jimmy Kahn thought he had equalised when he rifled in a superb shot but the referee blew for half time between the ball leaving his foot and hitting the back of the net!

Thankfully brother Denny had better fortune in the second half when he got a fine equaliser and Paul Davis headed the winner in the last minute.

Atherton Town got through the first barrier courtesy of a comfortable 4-0 win over Bromley Cross. Tony Carter and Clark Dobson got two goals apiece.

Eagley cruised to a 6-0 home win over Manchester League Ashton Athletic.

Despite creating a hatful of chances, Eagley had just scored the once in the first half through a free kick from Peter Morris.

Terry Finney's half time talk did the trick and within two minutes of the restart Neil Hart volleyed home, followed by Neil Mathews scoring two crackers.

The visitors now had to chase the game and the Villagers capitalised with Phil Hutchinson getting a brace.

Eagley Reserves earned a 1-1 draw at Leyland through a Carl Banks goal to remain top of the table.

"It was a really good game," commented Tempest United chairman Alan Westhead on his team's 3-0 away win at St Helens Combination side Pilkington Glass.

"Fortunately we played very well and especially our keeper Andy Hassall. When your keeper is playing out of his skin like that, it inspires all the rest of the players and we scored three almost identical goals, all the result of good through balls."

Mark Grundy, Neil Hodgkiss and Andy Benjamin were the men to break away and produce good finishes. The young United Reserves side when down 3-1 at home to Padiham.
