THE Queen today visited the Anderton Service Station on the M61. She was there for about half an hour, and as well as speaking to officials, and many members of the public, also visited the transport cafeteria to meet the Kings of the road. She unveiled a plaque in the main entrance hall.

SIR - I think the public of Bolton should know that one of our old Corporation servants, who is deprived of work through old age and affliction, is at times much in want of the necessities of life. It is well known that he spent all he had, and more, in connection with the ragged school, whether wisely or not, and the public must judge. The sale of the school did not realise sufficient to pay all debts, leaving about £200 owing. Mr Boardman, I believe, has since paid £60, leaving £140 towards which I shall be glad to contribute my £2. It may be said that he receives £1 a week from the borough funds, for which he is truly thankful. Still the £1 will not pay the debt, and the attendance which at certain times he requires. Hoping some kind friend of Mr and Mrs Boardman will take this matter in hand, I am yours, respectfully, Geo. Whittaker, Breightmet.
