BURY striker David Johnson may escape a ban for his sending off for over-celebrating his winning goal at Peterborough on Saturday.
The explosive youngster was dismissed for two cautions following his antics in which he danced in front of the home crowd before repeatedly reminding them of the score.
Confusion has reigned over the incident with referee Steven Bennett showing Johnson - who had been the victim of racial abuse for the third successive match - one red card instead of two yellows. His report has confirmed Johnson was sent off for two yellow card offences over the same incident which carries a one-match suspension instead of the three-match he would have received had he gone for one red card.
Ironically, just 24 hours before the game, the FA circularised referees with orders to be wary of booking players for celebrating - as it would appear foolish if players were sent off for it!
Bury are planning an appeal to the FA due to the procedure of the Mr Bennett in sending off Johnson and if it is met with sympathy - as it is believed to will be - Johnson could find himself let off.
Meanwhile, the Shakers go in search of their fourth successive victory at high-flying Millwall tonight when they will be looking to strengthen their position in second place behind runaway leaders Brentford who won again last night. They will be expected to make one change with striker Ronnie Jepson likely to return in place of Rob Matthews if he passes a fitness test on a hamstring strain which kept the bustling target man out of Saturday's victory.
