THE success and continuity of most angling clubs are entirely due to the efforts of the organisers and at times being a leading light of a club can be a thankless task.
Therefore it is particularly pleasing when one of the best is recognised by way of a memorial match. One such person was Bob Clarke who over the years has organised many matches and was involved in a great deal of organising on a local level.
Last Sunday local anglers competed in his Memorial Match on Dickinson Lane pond at Aspull. Chris Yates of Bolton Rivers won the match with 5-4 made up of skimmers taken on the pole with pinkies.
Tommy Davies, Lord Nelson AC took skimmers and perch on the pole and was second with 4-10. Unattached Derek Livesey was third when he pole fished maggot and caught skimmers for 4-6.
Alf Duckworth was red faced when he successfully landed a three pound bream, he then missed his keep net. He finished in fourth place with 2-14. Billy Welsby of Silcoms was fifth with 2-10 and Trevor Bevin of MAP Elton was sixth 2-10. CHORLEY and District Sea Angling Club fished from the beach at Rossall, Blackpool last Saturday. Fishing from 5pm until 10pm on a clear night with a medium force, southerly wind they found the codling and whiting hungry for action.
Tony Greives came out on top with 11-4, next came Sid Wisdom with 6-6 and Tom Brimley was third with 5-5. Pete Coote caught the biggest fish a 2-2 cod.
Their next match is on the East Coast on Saturday, November 16, and new members are asked to contact Alan on 01204 795719. BOLTON Specialist Angling Group wish to remind pleasure anglers that Doffcocker Reservoir is booked for a match on Saturday as the group go in search of monster pike. If any further information is required Tony Howard can be contacted on 01204 408904.
