BOLTON Council looks to have won its battle to keep Bolton on one motorway map at least.

As reported in the BEN in August planning chiefs promised that the council would vigorously pursue the fight to include Bolton on signs on the M6 and to restore Bolton on M61 signs which were removed when work was being carried out.

Bolton council has now been assured that Bolton will be put on the signs that were removed and gain some extra signs as well.

But the fight to retain Bolton on signing at the M6 southbound approach to the M61 continues.

Bolton was recently omitted in favour of the destination Blackburn (M65).

Yesterday members of the planning and environment committee voted unanimously to send an all party delegation to the House of Commons to discuss the situation with the Roads Minister John Watts.

The meeting, organised by Bolton North MP Peter Thurnham, is scheduled to take place on Monday, November 11.
