PLANS for play areas at a new housing development at Wilkinson Road and Belmont Road, on the site of Bolton's former Sweetloves Reservoir, have been approved by Leisure Services councillors.
A large play area will be located at the centre of the development for both younger and older children.
It will comprise an enclosed area of play equipment and an open grassed area.
A 'pocket' play area for toddlers will be located towards the South-western corner of the development.
A substantial area of open space around the northern and eastern perimeter of the site will also be included in the development.
The plans are subject to the housing development receiving planning permission.
There are contaminants in the reservoir's residual sludge material and these will have to be reduced below agreed threshold values for public open space.
If this is not possible alternative public open space sites will be sought.
The developer will pay towards the future maintenance of the play areas and towards establishing and maintaining the area of public open space.
