A FARNWORTH man is urging ex-sailors from the Merchant Navy to come forward with their tales of war heroism.

David Labrow is looking for memorabilia and stories of bravery on the seas for the Fort Perch Rock World War Two Society, New Brighton.

Mr Labrow, of Longcauseway, Farnworth, is gathering information on the Merchant Navy and is hoping local people will volunteer their help.

Mr Labrow said: "I have been everywhere but all I have come up against is a brick wall. There are no official recordings or figures on the Merchant Navy despite heavy losses during the second world war.

"I would like to hear from anyone who might be able to recount old stories and tell of battles. Also anyone who would like to donate memorabilia to the cause."

The newly-formed society, whose members dress in full military garb for re-enactments, has created a living museum at the fort.

"We aim to keep the stories of the Merchant Navy alive. They made a massive sacrifice in the war and they shouldn't be forgotten."

Schools interested in making a trip to the educational fort should contact the society at Perch Rock, Marine Promenade, New Brighton, Wallasey.

Local people wishing to provide information or memorabilia to Mr Labrow should contact him on Bolton 431686.
